Toll Brothers’ Legacy with Water Pollution

In 2016, Toll Brothers, one of the nation’s largest homebuilders, paid a $741,000 penalty to the EPA for Clean Water Act violations that occurring during construction of their properties at over 370 sites in 23 states, mostly in the eastern United States. The sheer number of violations indicates a callous disregard for clean water and the resultant damaging pollution runoff in the period leading up to 2012 when the violations were noted.

Keeping in mind that the 2015 NET INCOME for Toll Brothers, according to Wikipedia, was $363 million, a fine of this magnitude might be considered a minor inconvenience. Revenues for 2014 were reported at $3.91 billion, steadily rising from $1.88 billion in 2012.
